The Fused Silica division is the world's leading supplier of crucibles used in the production of polycrystalline silicon ingots. These ingots are then sliced into wafers used for manufacturing photovoltaic cells.

In this rapidly growing market, Vesuvius develops larger crucible sizes that allow customers to increase their productivity at moderate cost, together with high purity formulations that help match the ever-higher yield expected from solar panels.

The Fused Silica division is also the reference supplier of rollers used in the transformation of flat glass and special steels in diameters from 25 to 330mm and lengths up to 7.5 meters. In addition it manufactures refractory products used in both glass production and glass treatment.

Its unrivalled experience in fused silica is used to innovate in new segments such as thin film photovoltaic diffusion furnaces or jewellery crystal fusion where unique properties of fused silica can offer performing solutions.
